Assisting a Boutique Law Firm with Several Strategic Hires

The brief

We met a new client, an established and successful West End firm which focused predominantly on real estate. They were looking to broaden their offering with the hire of new partners in key strategic areas. Corporate Commercial and Matrimonial were at the top of their list.

The challenge

This firm, while longstanding and well-regarded in their primary practice area, and with a strong reputation amongst their peer group, did not have a substantial profile. We needed to source an individual that would find joining a small firm appealing and recognise the huge opportunity of heading up a department in a small firm. They also needed to have the tenacity to build reputation in a new practice area from the ground up.

The results

We met with our new client and had a very positive conversation. We talked a great deal about their firm – current partnership, financials, client base, natural strengths, etc. We also took time to understand their strategy, goals and ambitions for the firm. We paid particular attention to their description of the culture.

We demonstrated that we have a genuine understanding of boutique law firm ecosystems, and after a outlining our approach and values, we were instructed by the client to source several partners.

In the months that followed we introduced a corporate commercial partner, a long-standing contact of ours who was intrigued by our description of the firm. We worked with both sides to ensure a clear, drama free interview, business planning and offer process, which lead to a successful placement.

Some months later we were approached by a senior matrimonial lawyer who was looking for an opportunity to head up a team, and after various highly positive conversations that individual has also joined the firm as a Partner.

We continue to be the "go to” recruiter for this firm and have a very enjoyable working and social relationship with several members of the partnership.
