Building the In-House Team of an International Law Firm
The brief
Cyan Partners was enlisted to grow the in-house team of an international law firm in London. They required up to three junior to mid-level lawyers who could service the firm’s legal needs.
The challenge
Working as an in-house lawyer for a law firm is not well known as a career path and therefore not always an obvious choice. The market is extremely short of talent at the junior to mid-level and these roles were competing with in-house positions at established companies in FMCG, tech and media, which tend to be the first choice for lawyers at this level.
These roles, however, were within a friendly team with lots of potential for development, so for the right candidates were a great opportunity.
The results
Using our network of candidates and knowledge of this developing area of the market we were able to identify three candidates within four days of receiving the mandate. Two of the three candidates secured offers and one joined in a matter of weeks.
The successful candidates came from criminal and financial services backgrounds rather than commercial which was the job specification.
We focused our search on the type of skills needed rather than the work they would be undertaking. It was our role to direct the client to consider candidates that didn’t look like a fit on paper, but we were determined that their skills and mindset would make them successful in the role. Both the client and candidates were extremely happy with the result.
