General Counsel Appointment for a Leading Firm, advising at Board Level

The brief

Cyan Partners was retained to appoint a General Counsel for a leading national firm. This was a senior management appointment, advising at Board level.

The challenge

The main challenge in this appointment was the seniority required. The candidate needed experience of advising at Board level and have a corporate, in-house and law firm regulatory background. There was likely to be a great deal of interest in the role, as opportunities at this level don’t come up regularly and the competition for them is often intense. The mandate needed a thorough approach and to be handled discreetly and diplomatically.

The results

We undertook a thorough search and advertised selection process. There was significant interest in this role which meant we needed to undertake extensive interviewing and assessment to produce the shortlist.

We presented a shortlist, which met our client’s experience requirements and advised on the selection for interview at the shortlisting meeting. The successful candidate came from the search element of the process and won through a competitive field of applicants. The process gave our client the assurance they had appointed the best person for the role after a rigorous recruitment process.
