Risk & Compliance Associate – National Law Firm – Bristol or Southampton

Our client is one of the UK’s fastest growing law firms, having come from humble roots, it is now a leading regional and national player. With 7 offices across the South Coast and South West the firm delivers solutions to clients across retail, FS, energy, media, developers and private wealth.  Among its partners and employees, it promotes a culture of collaboration, innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit.  The firm embraces a progressive mindset, and they celebrate each other’s success.

Due to the rapid expansion of the firm the business support function has been growing to provide the robust risk and compliance advice needed at national level.  The current team of 8 is increasing and we are seeking a mid-level risk associate to join them.

The role will report to the Executive Director of Risk & Compliance and will sit within the team that covers the full range of law firm risk issues including, but not limited to, compliance, data protection, compliance, complaints and business continuity.  The focus for this role will be AML, sanctions, anti-bribery, PEPs, financial crime and conflicts.  As the successful candidate settles into the role you will be given autonomy and responsibility to take the lead on internal audits and will be the Deputy MLRO in due course.

The ideal candidate for this role will have at least 5 years’ PQE and either be a fee-earner in a relevant department or a lawyer who has already gained experience in a risk and compliance function of a law firm.  Knowledge of the SRA and its Codes of Conduct will be key, as will a good understanding of the AML regime. However, we are willing to consider candidates with a broader skills base who are happy to adopt the focus of this position.

You must be an outgoing and personable individual who is able to build relationships at all levels. Strong communication and analytical skills are very important. We are seeking somebody who has the energy and commitment to be part of, and make a significant contribution to, a best-in-class team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a junior/mid-level lawyer who is seeking a step up in the risk and compliance world or a fee-earner with this knowledge who is seeking a career move away from targets.
